Happy 1 Week Birthday, Baby Cameron!!!

Note: I know there are TONS of pictures for this post, but our older boys are still in Star Valley at my moms and we've been taking lots of pictures/videos for them to see since they can't come in and see him in person. That way they get to know their new little baby brother and have some time to get used to the idea before he comes home. : )

Today our baby Cameron is 1 week old!!! To celebrate, we let him try nursing! He did SO good for his first try! He probably only sucked for maybe 5 minutes, and he only got out about 2 cc's of milk, but we weren't even sure he'd want to try sucking at this age, so it was a WAY good first try! We were so proud. What a talented little boy we have. : )So, I really wasn't upset or scowling or anything, LOL, I just didn't know Blaine was getting me in this picture, too. BUT... look how pink/peach I'm getting again! (lips are still a little pale I guess... ) But I don't look like a corpse anymore! : )The temperature on his isolette is down to 87 (it has to be at 82 before he can move to an open crib), that's one degree down from yesterday's 88.He is up to eating 27 cc's at a time. It's still going up 1 cc every other feeding. By tomorrow he'll be up to eating a full oz of milk (30 cc's)! Once he gets to 45 cc's, he wont need his IV anymore, because that's the amount he'll need to maintain his birthweight. Hopefully he keeps digesting his food well and in a few days he'll hit that 45 cc mark and after that he'll start gaining weight quicker. He is very very slowly gaining back up to his birthweight. He's up to 4 lbs 1.8 oz.
He is back under the bililights today. He was just barely over the line for his levels. He's been up and down a little bit, so the doc said he might have gone back down without the lights, but he decided it was still a good idea just to have one more day under the bililights. Cameron doesn't mind a bit. He stretches and sprawls all out all comfy-like under the warm lights, like he's just lounging on the beach on a nice sunny day... : ) He also gets to wear his cool 'superhero' mask and transform into... (drumroll)... CAMERON: THE AMAZING DRAGON!!!
When I came back in after lunch this (above 2 photos) is how I found him... all sprawled out just lounging. The nurse said she almost adjusted him, but he looked so comfy and content how he was that she decided to leave him be. And he really did look super comfortable, it was so funny! Probably a good choice she left him to sleep that way for a bit because when I rolled him over to change his diaper he really wasn't too happy to be disturbed from his comfy position. : )
Check out this sweet little face!! Yup. That's right. I made that. : )A high school CNA student came in and needed a couple pictures for a project. We agreed to let Cameron be her subject. So she took a couple pictures and asked us a few questions about him and his birth for her project. It was kind of fun. Our little man is famous... well... at least in the CNA class at Pocatello High School. : )

The doctor said he's doing very well at everything he needs to be doing. He has no major concerns. Everything at this point is just a matter of time, slowly working his food intake up and slowly lowering the temperature on his isolette. I'm REALLY hoping that means he'll be able to come home in a few weeks, but I'm still trying not to get my hopes up too much. We'll just have to wait and see!

  2. I just got caught up on baby Cameron! I didn't realize you had been blogging - sorry to have neglected you this week! I have been thinking a lot about you and saying prayers for Cameron and your family. It's nice to hear the whole story. I am so HAPPY that things are going so well. I know it doesn't compare, but my twins were 35 weekers and were also 'feeders and growers'. It was scary there for awhile but then they improved really quickly (nursing was the key that got them out of NICU :)) and they came home. Yippeee! What gestational age was Cameron at birth? Just curious! I can't imagine how humongous he would have been at full term! Love you guys!

  4. He is amazing, isn't he? I love that you are keeping us up to date, even though I talk to you every day. The boys and I sit down a couple of times a day to see Cameron's pictures. Your coloring is coming back, how grateful I am! So excited that he was able to start nursing, what a great milestone. Love you so much! Mommy
